Heavy rain floods Berlin subway

Heavy rain and thunderstorms inundated Germany on Thursday, a week after torrential rains killed two in the north of the country.

The deluge left parts of Berlin flooded; traffic ground to a halt as cars contended with roads that had become rivers.

Many drivers risked the roads to get to higher ground or home, with scenes of cars plowing through water as high as their hoods captured by social media and news reports.

Those that tried to take the subway did not fare much better. While some lines continued to run, others closed as water flowed down stairs into subway stations, forcing them to shut down.

Some tracks were filled with water as high as the platform. Some trains continued to push through, bypassing some stops.

Storms are expected to continue on through the weekend, continuing a string of bad weather that has harassed the country.

Eastern Germany will face the brunt of it.

Last weeks, torrential rain, hail and winds of up to 75 mph whipped the country, flooding streets and downing trees.

Two people were killed in the storm on June 24.
