Much of Missouri was deluged with up to a foot of rain over the weekend. Rivers and creeks overflowed their banks and whole towns were flooded.
Rescuers had to go out in boats to collect stranded survivors.
Water overflowed a levee in a rural region northwest of St. Louis and a 57-mile section of highway had to be closed.
So far three deaths have been reported.
