The United States is falling down the global economic freedom charts—that’s what the Heritage Foundation says. It regards economic freedom as the fundamental right of every human to control his or her own labor and property. Its yearly report measures rules of law, government size, regulatory freedom, and open markets.

The data for this report is from the middle of 2019 to the middle of 2020—so part of the pandemic is included. America fell back because out of control government spending is putting U.S. fiscal health at risk.

NTD spoke with one of the report’s authors, Anthony Kim, and asked him what Heritage regards as some of the biggest threats to global economic freedom.
