It was supposed to be a pleasant hike in the Himalayan foothills.

It turned into a seven-week nightmare that cost life of her girlfriend.

Liang Sheng-yueh, 21 and his 18-year-old girlfriend Liu Chen-chun got lost in a snowstorm in the Ganesh Himal area of northwestern Nepal and spent 47 days huddled in a cave. They only had 10 days’ worth of food.

Rescue teams searched the area and finally one spotted part of Liang’s red tent peeking out from below a boulder.

Liang was rescued; sadly Liu died a few days before.

Liang lost 70 pounds. His feet were full of maggots and he was infested with lice.

His deepest injuries are emotional.

Liang is back home in Taiwan where he will hopefully fully recover.
