The hit Japanese animated film “Your Name” is opening in the United States on Friday. The movie animator is being compared to Hayao Miyazaki. The film deals with distant love, relocation, the difference between country and city life, and out of body experiences. It took the top box office spot in Japan for 2016.

The filmmaker Makoto Shinkai spoke about the movie.

“The core inspiration for the story was that of a dream and although this concept came from an old poem, the story itself is set in present day. I especially wanted it to resonate with younger Japanese audiences. I wanted to create a movie through which they can believe in their future, so I decided to create a story about a boy and a girl who haven’t met each other yet. Through the entire movie, they don’t encounter each other, not till the very end. The story doesn’t start with their encounter, but ends with it. I created this movie hoping that younger audiences would believe that maybe there is the one in my life I might have not met yet, but hopefully will see tomorrow or in the future.”
