A holocaust survivor celebrates a milestone.

At Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Charles Selarz celebrated his 100th birthday.

After Charles Selarz’s wife passed away 24 years ago, he was encouraged by his children to volunteer.

“My wife, she is a volunteer, but she is a survivor, too. But she—the cancer took her.”

“This is my number one, Doreen. She’s taken care of me like she’s my mother. She picks me up and takes me home.”

Charles does administrative work once a week at Cedars-Sinai.

“Because I like to help.”

“He’s all about productivity. He wants to make sure that there is work on the table in front of him for him to start immediately. If there isn’t, somebody’s going to hear about it.”

Charles is the grandfather of six and the great-grandfather of three.

“I have two good children, but they understand me. The grandchildren are perfect—perfect. This—this keeps me alive, too.”
