On April 16, 10 pro-democracy leaders in Hong Kong were sentenced to a maximum of 18 months for organizing and participating in protests against the extradition bill in 2019. Meanwhile, Beijing approved major changes to Hong Kong’s electoral system, effectively establishing near-total control in choosing Hong Kong’s leaders. The world is watching as Hong Kong is rapidly losing its freedom and the rule of law under the Chinese Communist Party.
