“HONG SHAO” RED BRAISED PORK BELLY RECIPE

Check out this awesome red braised pork belly! It will make your belly very happy!

2 pounds of pork belly
8 cloves of garlic
3 pieces of ginger
4 cups of water
3 pieces of star anise
¼ piece of dried tangerine peel
5 tablespoons of soy sauce
1 tablespoon of dark soy sauce
A pinch of salt
1 cup of shaoxing wine
2 tablespoons of yellow sugar cubes
1 stalk of scallions

Clean the pork belly and remove its hair. Boil the pork belly for 5 minutes. Cut it into cubes.

In the pan, add 3 tablespoons of oil, 8 cloves of garlic, stir fry until golden, take them out and put aside.

In the pan, add 3 pieces of ginger, pan fry until golden. Add the pork belly, 4 cups of water (or just about to cover the pork), 3 pieces of star anise, ¼ piece of piece of dried tangerine peel, 5 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of dark soy sauce, a pinch of salt, 1 cup of Shaoxing wine. Cover the lid. First cook in medium high heat for 10 minutes.

In a small pot, 2 tablespoons of water and 2 tablespoons of yellow rock sugar, stir until it melt, and then add 2 tablespoons of oil and mix until it turns brown. Pour it into the pork belly.

Then cook the pork belly for 50 minutes in low heat. Add the garlic and cook for another 10 minutes. Lastly, use high heat to thicken to sauce, add 1 stalk of scallions.
