A brown horse named Kiersa was saved by rescue crews on May 15 after she was trapped in thick mud in Plant City, Florida.
The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, veterinary Dr. Alexandra Urban from the Brandon Equine Medical Center, The Polk County Sheriff’s Office State Agriculture Response Team, the Hillsborough County Public Works (DPW), and volunteer horse rescue organization RVR Horse Rescue all got involved in saving the horse.
Rescue crews couldn’t lift her up, so an excavator crane was used. The vet administered anesthesia.
Kiersa survived the ordeal without any broken bones. She was checked by a vet, cleaned, and given a drip feed. The vet also administered antibiotics to prevent the mare from developing pneumonia.
Authorities said animal rescues are not uncommon around here, but such a dramatic intervention is rare.
Kiersa is about 25 years old and weighs around 900 pounds (408 kg), estimates the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.
