Huayna Picchu, the mythical Stairs of Death

Have you ever had the nightmare of climbing an endless staircase? Especially when you feel stressed, preparing for a major exam or a promotion, these stairs invade your dreams.

In real life, a challenging climb called “Stairs of Death” or “Hike of Death,” in Huayna Picchu (or Wayna Picchu), Peru, truly exists. Millions of people come to visit the mythical city of the Incas every year.

The ancient staircase, perhaps 600 years old or more, climb about 1,000 feet in less than one mile. It’s tough, but the reward is spectacular, a breathtaking view and the lost city spreads out like a map below your feet.
