Huge aquarium opens in Jerusalem, the first in Israel

Jerusalem’s Biblical Zoo unveiled the Israel’s first aquarium on June 16.

It displays hundreds of species of fish from the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

The aquarium took eight years to build and cost about US$284 million.

The 75,000-square-foot aquarium includes 33 tanks. It houses stingrays, clownfish, sea urchins, sharks, and more.

The aquarium will be more than just a popular tourist attraction. One of its aims is to help raise public awareness for the preservation of marine habitats.
