Human remains found more than two weeks ago have been identified as belonging to a young woman missing since 2017 in Ohio.

The missing woman was Amy Hambrick, who was 29 years old at the time of her disappearance in November 2017.

Hambrick went out to meet a friend in North Jackson but never returned, according to her mother, reported WKBN.

On Aug. 26, 2022, an unnamed woman was searching for her dog in a wooded area around Thorn Hill Road in Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio. The woman found bones instead and took them to local police.

The police at that time did not specify if the bones were human remains, according to WKBN.

On Tuesday, police identified these remains as belonging to Hambrick. She was identified through the examination of a jaw bone and dental records, done in the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office.

Youngstown Police Chief of Detectives Jason Simon said that Hambrick’s cause of death has not yet been determined. The investigation is ongoing.

Simon added that more interviews and repeat interviews are scheduled for the future, as well as more testing on the remains.

“Someone knows what happened,” he said.

It has not yet been determined for how long the bones have been in the wooded area, and it is also not known if they were transported there, according to Simon.

Family members did not comment after the police press conference.

According to Hambrick’s mother, Debby Dolin, Hambrick was a heroin addict and her family was planning to intervene at the time of her disappearance, according to The New York Post.

Hambrick left behind a young daughter, Jayden, who was 10 years old at the time of her mother’s disappearance.

“Her and Jayden were like two peas in a pod, always together … She misses her mommy so much,” Dolin said.
