*EDITOR’S NOTE: Turns out this was a brilliant marketing campaign by Careem!
When a video on Facebook goes viral, it doesn’t take long for a debate on whether it’s real or fake to surface either. And this video is no exception. In it, a man is launched by a slingshot-like catapult from a rooftop in Dubai.
The video starts with the stunning view from the roof with a helipad, the tower itself seems to be opposite to Dubai Marina Mall. As the camera pans back it reveals a man harnessed into the slingshot’s chair ready to be launched.
Several hundred meters from the starting point a catching net seems to be installed on one of the Jumeirah Beach Residence towers. But the crew had to watch their daredevil miss this net by a long shot.
You won’t see the impact in the video. It ends with the crew members panic-fueled dashing across the rooftop with the catapult, apparently fearful that their “flying man” missed his target.
Because the 25-second clip doesn’t show the landing, it fueled the debate on its authenticity, now it turns out that this was a brilliant marketing campaign that no one would have known about in first place.
