A dog owner in Utah is facing criminal charges after his four-year-old dog broke into a petting zoo and killed dozens of animals.

The petting zoo is located in the yard of Trip Kiss, who lives near the dog owner in Tooele.

The petting zoo is run by Kiss and his wife for kids with disabilities and is also utilized to teach animal husbandry to children.

Among the animals are chickens, ducks, a turkey, and a tortoise.

Security footage shows the husky in the early morning hours of Memorial Day running around the yard and driveway. The husky was targeting the animals in the petting zoo, Kiss said.

“He was chewing our goose that was at the back end there, he dug out the rabbits in their enclosure,” Kiss told Fox 13. The husky is seen carrying away two rabbits, and Kiss said he also killed two rabbits, two ducks, five chickens, a turkey, and a goose.

Kiss said all the losses are hard but the goose especially since it was specially trained.

“The goose was so friendly,” Kiss said. “It would follow us around at renaissance fairs, charities.”

After Kiss called the authorities, Tooele Police Sergeant Jeremy Hansen responded to the area. He and other officers found that the husky had been killing other animals as well.

“A second lady from a couple houses down came and told the officers that 15 of her chickens had also been killed by the same animal,” Sgt. Hansen said.

The husky was eventually caught. Its owner, Mackenzie Morton, said that the husky, Nikita, went missing from her boyfriend’s house, which is near the petting zoo.

“I didn’t think she was going to go on a killing spree,” Morton said. “I did not know that, at all.”

Kiss, though, said Morton should have expended more effort in trying to find the dog instead of just waiting at home for the dog to return.

Morton said she plans to pay for the damage, which is estimated at more than $1,350.

Morton was cited with 27 counts of misdemeanor attacking animals and one count of misdemeanor animal running at large.

The husky is in a 10-day quarantine as authorities debate what will be done with her.
