Since the start of the Shen Yun 2021 season in the United States, the classical Chinese dance performance has touched audience members from all walks of life.

“Happy, very happy. It goes straight to your soul. … You feel it inside the whole time. And I felt like I was in heaven for some of it myself,” said Kim Robinson, a business owner from Denver, Colorado.

“And my little granddaughter kept asking me, ‘Is that real? Why is it so bright? It’s beautiful, it’s gold.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, that’s kind of like, probably like heaven.'”

Melissa Fields from Phoenix, Arizona, said, “I feel like I was transported to another time and space.”

In Cedar Rapids, Iowa, pastor Paul Hanson was blown away by the performance. “I was just so, so enthralled by the whole production. It was not only excellent, but I just loved the values that it got a chance to communicate,” he said. “It also had an important message, I think, for our time. You know, a lot of times there [are] folks that don’t really understand the perils of communism. And I think getting a chance to really frame it up … I really love the values that are so clear.”

His daughter Emma Hanson added, “I think especially today, people get a very mixed view on China. And I love seeing the legitimate culture that this performance had. And I really think that people should come and see it.”

Ancient Chinese culture placed great emphasis on the divine, and was based on the idea of harmony among heaven, earth, and humanity.

However, in China today, these ancient values have been destroyed under communist rule.

“There’s such a big difference between understanding the culture and the people of China, and the Chinese Communist Party, which has really decimated and ruined the country … So I think that would be one of the most important things to take,” said Paul Hanson. “And I think the production did such a beautiful job getting a chance to share out the cultural values and the care and the love of the people of China.”

And Shen Yun’s goal is to bring those values back. Melissa expressed her attitude towards the artistic director and the performers.

“Such a thank you for portraying so much beauty, not only their excellence in their profession, in the music and the dancing and the whole production, but also in their message,” she said. “And I’m really grateful for people with that talent and that gifting to share it. It’s such a gift to give to us, to be able to watch it and enjoy it. So thank you. Thank you. It’s just really spectacular.”

Shen Yun will be performing in California starting from Dec. 22.
