Idaho police said that a 5-year-old boy who went missing on Aug. 5 may have been found dead.
Matthew Glynn went missing after wandering away from his birthday party in the late afternoon of Aug. 5. Police said that they are currently not anticipating that foul play was involved.
Matthew was nonverbal and had autism. He was wearing Batman pajamas at the time of his disappearance.
According to the police statement, search crews located the body in the water approximately half a mile down the canal north of State Street, Boise. Ada County Coroner’s Office has yet to make an official identification.
Following Matthew’s disappearance, Boise Police, Boise Fire, and Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue initiated a massive search operation.
Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue dispatched around 30 personnel for the overnight search, which also involved mountain bike teams that covered parts of a local greenbelt, according to Ron Christensen, a spokesman for the rescue team.
“The search involved drones, K9s, UTVs and covered the canals, river, and other areas between Veterans Memorial Parkway and Eagle,” Boise Police said in a statement.
The Ada County Child Abduction Response Team also launched an investigation, with detectives conducting door-to-door searches in the area where the child went missing.
In the official statement, Boise Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer extended his condolences to Matthew’s family.
“Sadly, this is not the outcome we were all hoping for. Our hearts go out to Matthew’s family, and we extend our deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time,” he said.
NTD has contacted Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue and Boise Police Department for further information but did not hear back before publication time.
