A couple was tubing down a river in Idaho when a woman was injured.
Cienna Cook, 19, is recovering after someone jumped on her from a bridge while she was floating on a tube on the Boise River.
Cook, who is a Boise State student, spent two days at Saint Alphonsus hospital, KTVB reported.
“She didn’t see it at all. It wasn’t until she was underwater she realized what happened,” Cienna’s mother, Heidi Cook, told the station.
She was floating with her boyfriend when they got separated.
Then, a man who weighed about 250 pounds jumped off the bridge, landing on top of her.
“According to some witnesses there that had overheard them, they were trying to jump into the water as close to people coming down as possible,” Heidi Cook was quoted as saying.
Cienna then floated helplessly down the river.
“Floating down the river, literally drowning. Unable to move. Unable to do anything to help herself. Luckily, one of the, what we assume was one of that guy’s friends, rushed off the bridge and essentially jumped in and rescued her,” Heidi added.
“The guy who jumped on her actually left the scene. He didn’t do anything to help her when he was in the water, he did nothing to help her after the water. It was kind of like a hit and run,” Heidi added.
The girl was taken via ambulance to the hospital. “It’s extremely fortunate it didn’t rupture any organs or break anything,” Heidi said.
The family is asking people who saw the incident to come forward with information.
A GoFundMe page was set up for her family.
“The severe bruising to her organs will prevent Cienna from returning to work for some time,” according to the GoFundMe page. “The hospital bills will be extensive, and will put a strain on the entire family.”
Cook responded to the news coverage on Facebook.
“Woke up yesterday to find my story on Daily Mail’s Snapchat, the New York Post, and even Fox News. The coverage has brought a flood of positive messages and donations from around the world. I have heard stories from people who have gone through similar trials and I am just speechless. My heart has been so touched by the kindness that people have shown me and my family without even knowing who I am and it has restored my faith in humanity,” she wrote.
