Rep. Ilhan Omar has recently deleted a Twitter post from June 2013 that stated her father’s name as Nur Said, which is also the middle name of her ex-husband—and her brother.

“Happy Father’s Day to my aabo Nur Said, I am forever grateful to Allah for giving me the best father a…,” said her message that was pulled from a since long deleted post on Instagram, that also revealed what came after the final “a…”

According to Somali customs, Nur Said, which is the second name of Omar’s second husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the first name comes first, then the father’s name followed by the grandfather’s name.

Ilhan called her aabo, or “Daddy,” Nur Said, which, according to his name is also the aabo of Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the man Omar was officially married to from 2009 to 2017.

The matter has sparked a lot of polemics since it looks like Omar married her brother for him to obtain a residence permit for the United States, which, if true, would be highly controversial, especially for a member of Congress.

According to the Daily Caller, The removal of Omar’s 2013 Tweet on Tuesday morning, Sept. 17, came one day after a Twitter user named Shaikh Tawhidi, the “Imam of Peace,” posted the following comment:

“Your father is Nur Said?
Not: Nur Omar Mohamed?

So you’re Ilhan Nur Said?

And you married Ahmed Nur Said,

You married your brother.

(Most Americans don’t know that in most Muslim countries, the surname is actually the father’s name)

With the removal of Omar’s tweet, the Imam of Peace’s tweet has also gone.

The controversy, which has lingered in the background for quite some time, was recently resurfaced and brought to the attention of the president.

“I know nothing about it,” he told reporters when asked about it in July after the subject made headlines. “I hear she was married to her brother.”

Claims that Omar married her brother in order to get him citizenship have been extensively examined by several blogs and media outlets.

An article from PJ Media reporter David Steinberg showed records showed Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, Omar’s apparent brother, and her second husband, Ahmed Hirsi, all lived together in North Dakota for several years. Yet another article was said to support the claim that Elmi is Omar’s brother.

Omar had filed joint tax returns with Hirsi despite still being legally married to Elmi. Authorities said Omar and Hirsi filed joint tax returns in both 2014 and 2015.

According to marriage records in Minnesota’s Hennepin County, Omar applied for a license in 2002 to marry her current husband, reported the Associated Press.

Omar said she and Hirsi split in 2008 after they had two children together, after which she married Elmi who she said is a British citizen on Feb. 12, 2009, according to a marriage certificate.

Omar said she and Elmi split in 2011, but they didn’t officially get divorced until 2017. Omar and Hirsi got back together in June 2012, according to divorce records. Omar and Hirsi got married in early 2018, about a month after the divorce from Elmi was finalized.
