A head-on car crash during a drag-race on a California street has claimed the lives of two children.

Two cars, a silver Honda Accord and a black Nissan Altima, were racing down Oakwood Boulevard in Perris, California, during the evening rush hour on Tuesday, May 15.

The pair of racing cars crested a hill near Old Elsinore Road and saw a blue Nissan Versa traveling in the oncoming lane.

The silver Accord slammed head-on into the oncoming car.

According to CBS2, three brothers were travelling in the blue Nissan Versa. The driver sustained only minor injuries but his two younger brothers, ages 6 and 8, were severely injured. Both were taken to a local hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The Accord driver suffered only minor injuries and will be charged with vehicular manslaughter.

“Street racing, as everyone well knows, is very dangerous,” Officer Dan Olivas with the California Highway Patrol told CBS2 News.

“You’re driving vehicles at very high rates of speed, and in an area like this – there’s children playing, there are houses lining these streets – just like tonight, you don’t know who’s coming from the other side of the street, especially with the hill right here.”

The California Highway Patrol is still looking for the second car.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call CHP at (951)637-8000.
