Bleu and Colby, two golden retrievers, are no strangers to fame. However, when a new member of the family was introduced, their owner was shocked to find out that his dogs seemed to be having a bad influence on his baby girl.

Chris Cardinal, the owner of the two golden retrievers, calls Bleu and Colby his “Cheese Pups.” The dogs gained fame when a timelapse video of them as pups running for their dinner went viral.

The “Cheese Pups,” born in 2014, even have their own Instagram account, which has over 8,500 followers.

But these pups went through a big change when they met their new kid sister, Chloe.

Upon meeting their new family member, “Colby was immediately, ‘This is my person,'” Cardinal told The Dodo. While Colby took to the baby right away, Bleu was a bit more hesitant. “Bleu took some warming up. Then he realized she was capable of giving pets,” Cardinal said.

However, as Chloe grew into toddlerhood, the pups quickly realized she could do more than offer pets. The pups realized she was generous with handing out treats. “Lately she’s gotten tall enough to reach into their food bin, so she scoops out kibble and drops it for them, much to our chagrin,” Cardinal told Bored Panda.

Soon, the pups hung out around Chloe’s highchair, knowing there was a high chance of food being dropped down to them.

“Colby parks himself under Chloe’s high chair every night,” Cardinal told Bored Panda.

The Great Escape

Soon, the pups recruited Chloe into their own partner in crime.

One early morning, Chris’ wife found their 15-month-old daughter out of her crib, wandering outside her room. The door to her room had been closed during the night, and Chloe wouldn’t have been able to reach the doorknob. The couple was puzzled.

But when they checked the footage from the night before, they realized she had some visitors in the middle of the night.

“They definitely knew what they were doing,” Cardinal told The Dodo. “They start getting hungry around 6 a.m., and instead of barking outside our room, I think they figured they’d try the baby.”

During the night, the excited and hungry dog duo burst into Chloe’s room.

After getting her to wake up, and taking her stuffed toy as leverage, the dogs led the little girl out of her room. Chloe was more than happy to escape her crib and run after her pets.

Cardinal said he’s not shocked the dogs pulled a stunt like this.

They’ve snuck into her room before overnight once, but not for breakfast,” Cardinal said. “This is the first time it effected a prison break.”

While the dogs get some tasty snacks from their new partner, Cardinal said his daughter gets a lot out of it too.

“Chloe wakes up every morning  and asks to see ‘puppeh,'” Cardinal told The Dodo. “She has to go give them their pets each morning.”

The dogs have more to teach the little girl too.

“They teach her how to be gentle with animals, socialization, etc.—and also how to get back up when they knock her over, which happens from time to time,” he said.

With all these antics, the parents are “second-guessing having another baby, for sure,” Cardinal said.
