Andrew Jones, 26, a professional fitness model and bodybuilder has no pulse — he lives and builds his fine physique using an artificial heart.
At age 22, Jones was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, making it hard for his heart to supply blood. After four months in intensive care, he was implanted with an LVAD (left ventricular assist device), which functions as an artificial heart. The LVAD is connected to two batteries and a computer that Jones always carries in a backpack wherever he goes.
He has his batteries charged every night. “At night, when I’m going to bed, I’ll plug my phone in, and then I’ll plug myself in,” Jones says.
He doesn’t let his heart condition intervene with life, however.
He continues doing what he loves, hitting the gym hard and improving himself.
Deciding to “live a no-excuses lifestyle,” Jones not only accepts his no-pulse life but even embraces it. He says: “I’m proud of the scars…. They tell your story and no one can take that away from you.”
