U.S.-based microchip maker Intel is walking back a statement urging supply chain partners to not source from China’s Xinjiang region, after the company apologized to China last week. The company said in an open letter published last month, “Intel is required to ensure our supply chain does not use any labor or source goods or services from the Xinjiang region.”
The letter prompted heated backlash from Beijing. Now, the chip company has backtracked completely—and removed all mention of the word Xinjiang from the letter.
