The International Cricket Council this week banned athletes from international women’s matches if they have been through male puberty.
It follows similar moves from other sports including cycling and swimming.
Jon Pike, a senior lecturer in philosophy, said an understanding of male advantage in sport has been established and things are unlikely to go back.
