The killing of Mahsa Jina Amini while in state custody in Iran in September 2022 has triggered widespread protests throughout the nation, with the young woman’s refusal to comply with wearing a hijab becoming a symbol of resistance. In response to the unrest, the Iranian government intensified its enforcement of the law, leading to a broader movement against the authoritarian regime.

Eighteen months later, various organizations, including the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), the largest opposition group outside the country, have called for resistance against the regime. A support rally held by NCRI ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, attracted figures from across the globe, advocating for democratic regime change.
