Iran ‘Unlikely’ to Use Hezbollah Proxy Attack as Retaliation for Alleged Israeli Strike on Consulate: Analyst

Iran has vowed to retaliate against Israel after the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus was destroyed by an airstrike on Monday. Iran says it blames Israel for the strike, which killed a number of Iranian military officials.

NTD spoke to Avi Melamed, a former Israeli intelligence official and a senior official on Arab affairs, who says that while both a direct Iranian attack or attacks from Iranian proxies are possible responses, Iran is unlikely to use Hezbollah in Lebanon as a main retaliatory force, as it would probably prefer to avoid a direct Israel–Hezbollah conflict.
