For more on the Israel–Hamas conflict, NTD spoke to Avi Melamed, a former Israeli intelligence official and senior official on Arab affairs. He said the IDF have likely finished their preparations for their ground offensive into Rafah.

“In the end of the day, Israel really doesn’t have any choice, because like any other government, it has to bring back their civilians that are hostages,” said Mr. Melamed. “So Israel has to do whatever it takes to bring them back home.”

The final orders to move in are now in the hand’s of the Israeli government, and will likely come following a civilian evacuation, he said.

He also said it’s likely Israel will relocate civilians eastward towards Israel’s border when the time comes.
