Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was hospitalized Tuesday, March 27, after running a “high fever,” say reports.
A doctor for Netanyahu, 68, said that he hadn’t fully recovered from an illness two weeks prior, Sky News reported, adding that he underwent further tests at the hospital.
A spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office told the Times of Israel that they were “not aware” if a deputy prime minister was appointed in light of the hospitalization—namely, if Netanyahu were to become sedated or incapacitated in some way.
Netanyahu, known to many as Bibi, had fallen ill several weeks after police said that he should be charged with fraud, bribery, and a breach of public trust. His earlier illness was unspecified.
“Don’t go overboard,” one aide told Haaretz on Tuesday. “It’s business as usual at this stage.”
The hospital told the outlet that it might have been a throat infection that developed into pneumonia.
But the prime minister said the recommendations were “biased, extreme, and full of holes like Swiss cheese.”
They alleged that he received $100,000 in gifts from gifts from Hollywood mogul Arnon Milchan, as well as other supporters.
The police recommendations, he added, “will end with nothing.”
