For the first time in almost half a century, Giotto’s frescoes in the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi are undergoing a restoration. Restorers are using medical syringes to save the priceless 700-year-old frescoes. They are almost finished with a year-long project to clean and consolidate the frescoes in the Chapel of the Magdalene in the lower basilica of St. Francis.
