Jailing Men in Women’s Prisons: California Law Sparks Controversy

Men are being housed in women’s prisons in California if they claim to identify as female. The law was sponsored by Democratic California State Sen. Scott Weiner, and Gov. Gavin Newsom signed it into law in 2020. Critics of the law say it violates female prisoner’s rights and puts them in grave danger. NTD’s Daniel Monaghan spoke with the executive director of the Women’s Liberation Front, Sharon Byrne, as well as the lead counsel in the organization’s lawsuit challenging the law, Lauren Bone. They explained the ramifications of the law for the women affected.
