Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx is opening up to fans about a medical complication that left him hospitalized last year.

In a new video circulating online, the 56-year-old is seen speaking to fans outside of a restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona, about the health scare he endured.

“April 11 last year, bad headache; I asked my boy for an Advil,” Mr. Foxx said before snapping his fingers. “I was gone for 20 days; I don’t remember anything.”

He recalls being in Atlanta at the time of the incident and said he was told that his sister, Deidra Dixon, and daughter, Corrine Foxx, took him to the hospital.

“They gave me a cortisone shot, and the next doctor said something’s going on up there,” he said while pointing to his head.

Before the video ended, Mr. Foxx said he didn’t want to elaborate further while on camera. The actor has yet to disclose the exact condition that he suffered.

During Mr. Foxx’s hospitalization, Ms. Foxx issued a statement on behalf of the entire family via social media confirming the medical complication.

‘We wanted to share that my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday … Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers … The family asks for privacy during this time,” reads the post.

In an Instagram video he made during recovery, Mr. Foxx credited both his sister and daughter and the decisions they made during the medical crisis for saving his life.

“To be honest with you, my sister Deidra Dixon, my daughter Corinne Marie saved my life … I cannot tell you how great it feels to have your family kick in in such a way,” said Mr. Foxx.

“And y’all know they kept it air-tight and didn’t let anything out. They protected me, and that’s what I hope that everyone could have, and moments like these … I’m here on Earth because of some great people. I’m here on Earth because of God.”

At the time of the incident, Mr. Foxx was on set filming for the upcoming Netflix action-comedy “Back in Action,” starring alongside Cameron Diaz. Production was halted following his medical scare, but filming resumed in January and the movie is set to be released later this year.

Meanwhile, the actor and musician has slowly made his way back into the public eye. He recently returned to hosting the Fox competition show “Beat Shazam” after sitting out last season.

He hosts the show alongside Ms. Foxx, who told Entertainment Tonight that despite the scare, her father is “doing amazing” and staying active, adding she is grateful for the opportunity to work with him again.

“[I’m] so grateful to be able to work on [Beat Shazam] with him and spend so much time with him. He’s playing a lot of pickleball! That man and pickleball; it’s like he’s playing twice a day every day… It’s a whole thing. He’s fully in it,” said Ms. Foxx.

Mr. Foxx is also set to return to stand-up comedy, with live shows in the works. He says that’s when he plans to share more.

“Everybody wants to know what happened, and I’m gonna tell you what happened, but I got to do it in my way,” he said last year during the AAFCA Special Achievement Awards.
