Japan commemorates March 11 quake and tsunami disaster, which triggered the ongoing nuclear crisis at Fukushima six years ago.

Japan on Saturday (March 11) marked six years since the 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis at a national memorial in Tokyo.

At 2:46 p.m. (0546 GMT), the moment the quake hit, bells rang out in downtown Tokyo and people around the nation bowed their heads in a moment of silence.

At the National Theatre of Japan in Tokyo, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the Imperial Prince Fumihito and Princess Kiko bowed in front of a stage laden with white and yellow flowers in a ceremony attended by about 200 people, including survivors from the stricken area.
