Japan’s National Security Council discussed getting its citizens out of South Korea in the event of a crisis. Japan is concerned about the expansion of North Korea’s nuclear weapons program. Officials want to be sure Japanese citizens are safe during an attack.
Yoshihide Suga, Japan’s chief cabinet secretary, spoke about how Japan’s government is getting prepared, “In order to protect the lives and wealth of our citizens, we are maintaining a high level of monitoring and are prepared to deal with any situation by being vigilant. We will do whatever it takes to protect the peace and security of the nation.”
The council also discussed what to do about North Korean refugees. They are concerned that North Korean soldiers could be hidden among a flood of refugees. They also want to make sure plenty of humanitarian measures are in place.
