WNBA star Brittney Griner was back in a Russian courtroom Friday as her trial continued—even though she already pled guilty to drug possession charges last week. NTD talked to Arie Shamuilian, a criminal and injury attorney, who says the plea deal merely changes the course of the trial, instead of ending it.

In golf, the British Open continued Friday with round 2 at the old course at St. Andrews. Tigers Woods, who struggled to an opening round 78 Thursday, did marginally better with a 3-over 75, while managing a single birdie. But sitting near the bottom of the leaderboard, with a 9-over score, he’s well behind the projected weekend cut of even par.

In Olympic news, former American great Jim Thorpe was reinstated as the sole winner of the pentathlon and decathlon at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. The ruling by the IOC comes on the 110th anniversary of Thorpe winning those events, after which he was called the greatest athlete in the world by Sweden’s King Gustav V. Thorpe was stripped of his golds a few months later though, when it was learned he previously had played minor league baseball.
