Media tycoon and pro-democracy advocate Jimmy Lai is facing a trial in a Hong Kong court on Monday. He and seven others are accused of “an unauthorized assembly” over a banned Tiananmen vigil last year.
The vigil had been held annually, to mark the anniversary of a bloody crackdown in 1989, when military troops quashed student-led pro-democracy protests in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square.
