There seems to be a trend on the rise—jobs are being dropped like bad habits. People are simply walking away from jobs they don’t enjoy and never coming back.

Job “ghosting” is the official term for this new trend, defined as people quitting jobs without giving the appropriate notice, not showing up for a scheduled job interview, or accepting a position and never showing up for work.

And the trend seems to be happening mainly among the millennials, according to Greg Giangrande, a chief human resource executive and career advice columnist.

Giangrande said that “ghosting” is seen more often in lower-paying jobs, such as retail work—with people who are fairly early on in their career path. It is an uncommon phenomenon for professionals and people who have been working for a long time.
