Unlikely Bath Pals: JoeJoe the Capybara and Baby Ducklings

JoeJoe is one of the world’s largest rodents, a capybara. Normally living in South America, populating savannas and dense forests, it prefers living near bodies of water. So it’s of little wonder that JoeJoe loves “sleeping, eating, swimming, napping, snacking [and] bath time” as his Facebook tells us. Yes, JoeJoe has his own social media accounts…

One more thing, this capybara has in common with its wild relatives  is playing with other animals. Nobody knows why capybaras enjoy the company of other species … But if you search the internet for “capybara cuddling with other animals” or something like that, you’ll get hours of video footage with all kinds of animals.

This animal friendship phenomenon doesn’t only include only small animals. Capybaras are said to cuddle with all of them, including larger animals, including horses and dogs. On the other end of the spectrum are cats, guinea pigs and even ducklings. Maybe the common love of water, is another reason for friendship with ducklings.

And JoeJoe is no exception to this phenomenon … JoeJoe the capybara is three years old, living inside and is potty trained. So he might not encounter ducklings in the wild, but what about the bath tub? It’s water, it’s inside but there are no ducklings – not anymore. Just watch how cute they are, trying to climb on his back …
