The 51-year-old director John Singleton suffered a stroke and is in a coma.

At first it was said to be a mild stroke, but now it is reported that he suffered a “major” stroke and is under intensive care, and at the same time, his family is establishing a conservatorship for him, according to TMZ.

He was having trouble with his legs after suffering from a stroke in Costa Rica and later suffered a second stroke while at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Apr 17.

Singleton is “currently in the ICU and under great medical care.” said his family in a statement, gossiponthis reported, “We ask that privacy be given to him and our family at this time and appreciate all of the prayers that have been pouring in from his fans, friends and colleagues.”

TMZ obtained legal documents and made known that Sheila Ward, Singleton’s mother, asked a judge to appoint her a temporary conservator since he is “unable to properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter,” gossiponthis reported.

His mother said he was working on some businesses deals and in the process of signing a lucrative settlement agreement. She said she wants to take care of the settlement agreement, and because he doesn’t have medical directives, a conservatorship is required for him.

“Pray 4 my brother,” wrote Snoop Dogg on Instagram.

“Praying for John Singleton!” Viola Davis wrote on Twitter.
