Update at 5:45 p.m. ET: There will be no more votes Tuesday night and the House will reconvene at 11 a.m. on Oct. 18 for the second round of ballots for the speaker, according to a notice sent by Majority Whip Tom Emmer.
Due to 20 House Republicans voting against him, nominee for House speaker Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) failed to get confirmed in the first ballot on Tuesday. He told reporters that he planned to hold another floor vote later in the day.
