Joshua Philipp: Why the World Is Facing a Food Crisis

In Sri Lanka, the parliament on Monday said it would elect a new president next week after protesters stormed the residences of the current president and prime minister. They have both offered to quit amid an economic meltdown that follows, among other troubles, a previous nationwide ban on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.

Meanwhile, protests are spreading in Europe by farmers who fear losing their land and their livelihoods, in part a response to government plans to reign in nitrogen—policies that seem to be taking root in countries around the world.

Where is it leading? One outcome so far has been increased food shortages, impacted also by pandemic supply chain issues and Russia’s war in Ukraine.

NTD spoke with senior investigative journalist Joshua Philipp from the Epoch Times who hosts the “Crossroads” program to look directly at the issues and many of the factors involved.
