Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) released some health records in response to a trending call for transparency on issues of the health of presidential candidates contending she is “in very good health.”
“Senator Amy J. Klobuchar is in very good health,” Jennifer McKeand of Women’s Health Consultants in Minneapolis wrote. “She does not have any health conditions that would impair her ability to perform the duties of the Presidency.” McKeand is an obstetrician-gynecologist—not a physician, by the way.
The two-page document, which Klobuchar released on Monday, noted that she had slightly raised blood lipids, and a record of mitral valve prolapse, but this should not impede her from fulfilling her tasks as a president.
The report further evaluates tests for diabetes, thyroid disease, anemia, and colon and cervical cancer, and stated her blood pressure is “excellent.” Klobuchar is also on painkillers for a hip replacement she had 14 years ago.
Klobuchar, 59, is one of the youngest contesters for the presidency in the oldest field in history that includes five septuagenarians—Trump, and four Democrats.
Recently, other candidates like Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), 78, who had two stents implanted last year in October after he suffered a heart attack, also came clean to a certain extent about their health status.
Sanders released three letters in December of his physician stating that he is remarkably resilient for his age and is fully able to take on the duties and heavy responsibilities to finish at least one or two four year terms.
Michael Bloomberg, also 78, who is Sanders’ junior by just five months, had two stents, albeit 20 years ago. He released a letter stating he is in “great physical shape,” and is an avid golf-player and that he holds a helicopter pilot license.
Joe Biden will hit 78 in November and has also released a three-page letter, stating that he is a “healthy, vigorous 77-year-old male.”
Elizabeth Warren, 70, also presented a five-page report revealing her blood pressure and her thyroid scores, among other things. The letter also concluded she was “in excellent health.”
Former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg is the youngest competitor, only 38. He is the one who called for candidates to give insight into their medical conditions the hardest, but he’s the only one who has given no information about his as of yet.
President Trump, 73, released a letter from his physician stating that he is in “astonishingly excellent” health, according to The Washington Post.
“Transparency matters, especially living through the Trump era,” said Buttigieg, according to the Post. “President Trump … said just a letter from a doctor is enough, and a lot of folks on this stage are now saying that’s enough. But I am certainly prepared to get a physical, put out the results. I think everybody here should be willing to do the same.”
