Los Angeles law enforcement arrested a man barricaded in a West Hollywood apartment after a standoff which lasted several hours.
The suspect got into an argument with his landlord at an apartment complex in the 900 block of Doheny Drive near Sunset Drive around noon on Aug. 21. The argument was sufficiently intense enough for someone to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, KTLA reported.
The suspect, who had a gun, barricaded himself inside the building a fired several shots. Patch.com reported that the man started throwing items off a balcony.

The man lived on the first floor of the multi-story building, according to a notice sent to residents that was posted on Twitter. A neighbor told KTLA that the man had a history of psychiatric issues and was on medication. Others told KTLA that the man had caused disturbances like this before, but that this was the most extreme.

After spending about five hours trying to convince the man to surrender, SWAT officers used flash-bang grenades and a chemical agent to subdue the suspect, who was carried out of the building on a stretcher.
Sheriff’s deputies opted not to evacuate the building. Instead, they ordered residents to stay in their apartments.
“That was the first thing I saw, was guys run out and yell, ‘It’s an active shooter situation,'” neighbor Brad Nuemann told KTLA .
“So it was pretty frightening, especially for this area right on Doheny, you don’t really see a lot of trouble around here.”
While it didn’t try to evacuate the building, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office did close down streets in the area.
