Lionel Messi 21-month tax fraud sentence upheld

Lionel Messi tried to avoid a conviction on tax fraud charges but Spanish courts upheld the 21-month sentence.

The 29-year-old Argentine soccer star forward plays for Spanish club FC Barcelona. He also plays for the Argentine national team.

Both Messi and his father faced the same charges and could be seen in court together.

The two face a fraud sentence for not paying taxes to the Spanish government on image rights. According to 90 Min, both said they did nothing wrong, but were misled by tax advisers.
