Princess Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” inspired a Texas girl to create a hairdo that won Crazy Hair Day at her school on March 20, 2019.

When pre-kindergartener Atlantis Romero needed a theme to enter a hairstyle competition at school, her mother had a brilliant spark of inspiration. The mother thought the hairstyle could have something to do with her older daughter, Ariel, and Atlantis, which is where the Little Mermaid lives.

“My Mom did the mermaid because my name is Ariel and my sister is Atlantis, which is where Ariel lives under the sea,” Ariel said in a Twitter post dated March 20. “We’ve grown up loving mermaids thanks to my parents.”

The end result was a Little Mermaid doll used as an improvised hairpin and green paint on the braided ponytail to represent the mermaid’s scaly tail.

Ariel revealed her mother could have braided Atlantis’s hair in a fishtail style but did not know how.

“My Mom didn’t do a fishtail braid because she’s a beginner braider, so the fishtail braid was a little more hard,” she said. “She did what she could do and still succeeded.”

When Atlantis showed her “Little Mermaid” hairdo, the judges were totally blown away and awarded her first prize.

“Yes my sister did win crazy hair day,” Ariel said. “She’s only in pre-K lmao y’all just wait for my Mom the upcoming years.”

Ariel shared two photos of her sister’s hairdo and they went viral, attracting nearly 99,000 retweets and more than 550,000 likes as of March 21.

Many of the people who replied shared their own child’s photos from Crazy Hair Day, with one proud parent saying she had a similar idea three years earlier.

“Awww I love it,” Lenydehernadez said in a Twitter post dated March 20. “I did this for my daughter 3yrs ago too.”

While others remembered when they were children and their mother made a big deal about the occasion.

“Was my Mom the only one who thought crazy hair day was synonymous with messy hair day?” Vecca said in a Twitter post dated March 20. “Looking at this made me realize the true purpose of crazy hair day… when I have kids.”

A proud family member whose younger sibling won Crazy Hair Day at another school seized the opportunity to show off their impressive work.

“My Mom made sure my 5 y/o lil sis won her crazy hair day at school too,” Yazmine said in a Twitter post dated March 20. “Ofc my 3 y/o lil sis wanted to be just like her big sis (hence the last pic).”
