London Mayor Sadiq Khan wants the EU and U.K. to continue to cooperate on issues like security and defense, finance to tech to tourism, despite the fact that Brexit will pry the United Kingdom out of the European group.

Khan visited Brussels on Tuesday, March 28, a day before U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to formally trigger Brexit proceedings.

Khan met with European Parliament President Antonio Tajani and Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. He said he was proud of the UK’s 44-year membership in the EU, and that the U.K. remained part of the EU family.

“We’ll be leaving the EU but we’re not leaving Europe,” he said.

Khan campaigned strongly for the U.K. to remain in the European Union, ahead of the UK’s poll last June.
