Lord Moylan: The Upcoming Online Safety Bill is ‘Totally Offensive to Democratic Principles’ | British Thought Leaders

Live Chat

NTD’s Lee Hall sits down with Conservative peer Daniel Moylan, who is concerned about the upcoming Online Safety Bill set to be signed into law this year.

The bill transfers powers from the government to a regulator who can require WhatsApp, iMessage, and Signal to scan people’s private messages.

WhatsApp and Signal have already said they may leave Britain rather than create a backdoor in their encryption.

The bill also threatens Wikipedia and, in particular, Welsh Wikipedia—the world’s largest Welsh-language website.
