Los Angeles Sheriff Alex Villanueva said at a press conference on March 9 that budget setbacks and a hiring freeze are impairing his department’s ability to provide public safety. Last October, the supervisors lifted the freeze on every department except for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.
President Joe Biden also called for police refunding in his State of the Union address.
