Macron says world needs France ‘more than ever’

“The world and Europe need France now more than ever.”

This is how new French President Emmanuel Macron opened his inaugural address.

France had all the assets it needed be a great power of the 21st century, said Macron.

He called on France to respond to the crises facing the world.

“France’s mission in the world is of utmost importance,” Macron told his audience.

“We will take our responsibilities to bring an appropriate response to the great, modern crises when necessary, be it the migrant crisis, the challenges arising from climate change, authoritarian temptations, the excess of world capitalism, and of course terrorism.”

Macron promised to open up the labor market.

He also said culture and education would be primary.

Macron defeated far-right Marine Le Pen, who wanted to shut out immigrants and withdraw France from the EU.
