Chicago-based Riverside Natural Foods Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain batches of MadeGood granola bars due to potential metal contamination.
The company said in a notice posted by the Food and Drug Administration on Dec. 10 that the potential presence of a piece of metal could result in a safety hazard if consumed. While no injuries have been reported, the company said the recall was initiated “out of an abundance of caution and commitment to the well-being of our valued customers.”
“The piece of metal is a small, flat brush bristle, and highly unlikely to be present in our products. We received seven complaints out of the hundreds of millions of bars sold, and no injuries have been reported,” MadeGood wrote on the company website’s recall announcement.
Riverside Natural Foods said it identified “the source of the issue in the manufacturing process” after conducting an investigation into the recalled products. The company said it had “remediated the issue and tested the new processes to ensure that any future risk is fully mitigated.”
According to the FDA, the recalled product was produced between January and November 2024, and distributed throughout Canada, the United States, and other international markets.
Products impacted by this recall include eight different flavors of MadeGood granola bars, including:
