Man in Brazil knocked unconscious by a flying tire

Roberto Carlos Fernandes, a 50 year old man, was walking down the pavement of a street in Brazil. From the roadway beyond the median, a flying tire from a speeding car hit the back of his head, and knocked him out instantly.

Although he was hit by the tire very hard, his wife who  had been walking close beside him was safe and unhurt. He was immediatly taken to the brought to the hospital. According to journalist Gil Souza , he suffered chest and skull fractures.

Souza said: “Witnesses said that the vehicle had been hauling a trailer, and the tire came loose from the rear axle of the trailer. This was a freak accident where the wheel struck him at the exact moment where his head was in the wrong place.”

Mr. Fernandez was treated at the hospital Marcio Cunha. He has survived and has been released from intensive care.
