Police in Corpus Christi, Texas, said that a man got trapped behind an ATM and slipped notes to customers via the receipt slot, pleading for them for an escape.

Corpus Christi police Lt. Chris Hooper said a contractor got stuck Wednesday when he was changing a lock on a door to a Bank of America room that led to the ATM, NBC DFW reported.

The man, who had forgotten his cellphone, passed notes via the ATM. One read, “Please help. I’m stuck in here,” asking people to call his boss, the report stated.

A customer then called the police, saying they heard a faint voice emitting from the machine.

The man was freed after an officer managed to kick in the door to the room.

“We have a once-in-a-lifetime situation that you’ll probably never see or hear about again,” said Officer Richard Olden, of the Corpus Christi Police Department, according to WPXI. “He can’t get out. He can’t call anybody because his phone is in his truck,” said Olden.

Some people thought it was a prank.

“Sure enough, we can hear a little voice coming from the machine, so we’re all thinking this is a joke, it’s gotta be a joke,” said Olden.

The man was trapped in the ATM room for about two hours.
